Not as Hardwired as We Thought

Science has discovered that our brains are not hard-wired like we thought they were but are quite plastic. It turns out that our brain is constantly re-wiring itself! Brain mapping reveals the wiring changes in days to weeks. Before surgical correction of syndactyly (fused digits) the brain map shows only 4 digits, but within days to weeks after surgery the map shows all 5 digits. Complete recovery from a stroke is now known to be 100% possible with sufficient, prolonged stimulation of the affected limbs. Recovery of full function has been documented after more than a decade of flaccid paralysis. #Neuroplasticity is changing not just our brains but how we do stroke rehabilitation.
